UPDATE: Official: United Russia supports Mishustin as PM unanimously

(Rewrites story)

MOSCOW, Jan 16 (PRIME) -- The faction of the United Russia party in the State Duma, parliament’s lower chamber, has unanimously supported Mikhail Mishustin for the post of the prime minister, aide to the Duma speaker Anastasiya Kashevarova said in her Telegram channel on Thursday.

“The United Russia unanimously,” she wrote.

A source who participated in a meeting between Mishustin and the United Russia faction told PRIME that the plans outlined in President Vladimir Putin’s Wednesday address to parliament will be Mishustin’s priority. “The address is his priority,” the source said.

On Wednesday, the Russian government chaired by Dmitry Medvedev resigned after the presidential address to parliament.

Volodin said that he did not discuss the lineup of the new government with Mishustin. “Firstly, this is a prerogative if the chairman of the government. If he wants to discuss the issue with parliament, we will surely discuss it. Maybe, this topic will be voiced at a meeting with the factions, maybe, this is an issue which will be separated later during the consultations,” he said.
